What is Melview?
 |

|
The Melview Interview systems have been purpose-built for the specific requirements of
evidential interviews, interrogations and depositions. The products have been developed
to meet a demand for an electronic, reliable and tamper-proof method of interviewing,
that presents a more complete picture of the interview process.
The fully integrated Melview Unit is able to simultaneously record multiple copies of evidential interviews
at the simple push of a button and removes the need for complex configurations of separate
audiovisual components. This is due to the custom-built Melview Computer Controller that
is the very heart of the Melview Interview systems, and meets all the requirements of
evidential interviews.

Background - Police Interviews
 |
 |
The Melview Units were originally developed for the New Zealand Police for electronic interviewing
of suspects in 1993. Mitsubishi HiFi VHS video recorders are connected to camera and microphone
inputs via a sophisticated custom-built microprocessor controller, with identical video and audio
of the interview recorded along with time and date information. One tape can be produced as
evidence in court with the other(s) retained by the police. Copies can also be made within
the Melview Unit for legal counsel and other interested parties. The Melview Interview
systems have evolved over the years with customised options produced for several agencies
around the world. In 2006 we produced our first generation DVD unit using the multipurpose
Melview Series 105 controller. This allowed customers a simple migration path from VHS Hifi recorders.
Late 2009 we released our latest model the Series 106 that has 3 base models. The S106 using a full body camera
for suspect interviews, B106 covert child/Witness unit and a P106 portable unit that weighs only 4.2KGs. We
will soon release a Series 106 recorder only that can be used cost effetely replace and upgrade the Panasonic
DVD recorders used in the Series 105 systems. Reducing maintenance costs and allowing same network
connectivity that has been developed for the Series 106 systems.
The Series 106 also has the ability to store and migrate interviews over the customer’s networks
to video servers.
The Melview system has been designed to be easy to use, robust, reliable, tamper-proof and portable.
The heart of the system is the hardware computer controller that monitors the recorders and ensures
identical signals are sent to all recorders. The controller is the skilled operator that controls
the front-panel buttons through dedicated logic circuits, making it suitable for a wide range of staff.
The Series 106 has been designed so that interviews cannot be interrupted due to faulty DVD media.
The Melview systems use the best quality components to ensure the best possible picture and sound
is recorded with the specially designed Melview Stereo boundary microphones. The interview units
can be remotely monitored for health checks.
Melview interview systems have been developed and manufactured to be reliable and future proofed.
Some of our original VHS systems are still in service after 17 years of operation.
Although recording technology is evolving much faster these days our systems are designed
so that they can be upgraded.
